Alhambra Castle, Tower walls and churches, Granada, Andalusia, Spain

The Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex located in Granada, Andalusia, Spain. It was originally constructed as a small fortress in AD 889 on the remains of Roman fortifications, and then largely ignored until its ruins were renovated and rebuilt in the mid-13th century by the Moorish emir Mohammed ben Al-Ahmar of the Emirate of Granada, who built its current palace and walls. It was converted into a royal palace in 1333 by Yusuf I, Sultan of Granada. After the conclusion of the Christian Reconquista in 1492, the site became the Royal Court of Ferdinand and Isabella (where Christopher Columbus received royal endorsement for his expedition), and the palaces were partially altered to Renaissance tastes

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the magnificent Alhambra Castle, Tower walls, and churches in Granada, Andalusia, Spain. The Alhambra is a remarkable palace and fortress complex with a rich history that dates back to AD 889 when it was initially constructed as a small fortress on Roman fortifications. However, it remained neglected until the mid-13th century when Mohammed ben Al-Ahmar, the Moorish emir of the Emirate of Granada, renovated and rebuilt its ruins into the grand structure we see today. The castle's transformation continued in 1333 when Yusuf I, Sultan of Granada, converted it into a royal palace. Following the Christian Reconquista in 1492, Ferdinand and Isabella chose this site as their Royal Court. It was within these very walls that Christopher Columbus received royal endorsement for his historic expedition. In this breathtaking image captured by Danita Delimont from Fine Art Storehouse, we are treated to an unobstructed view of this architectural marvel against a backdrop of clear blue skies illuminated by warm sunlight. The absence of people allows us to fully appreciate the intricate details and sheer size of this iconic landmark. Whether you have visited before or dreamt about exploring its halls one day, this print transports you to another time and place where centuries-old history comes alive through stone walls and towering structures.
