One of the Abandoned Houses at the Ghost town of Kolmanskop, Luderitz, Namibia

A black and white infrared photograph of the interior of one of the abandoned houses at the ghost mining town of Kolmanskop (Kolmanskuppe) near the town of Luderitz in Namibia. Kolmanskop is also well known by its German name of Kolmannskuppe. It is a ghost town in the Namib desert in Southern Namibia which is situated approximately 10 kilometres inland from the port town of Luderitz. Diamonds were found here in the early 1900s but the town declined after World War I when the diamond-field slowly exhausted and was ultimately abandoned in 1954

EDITORS COMMENTS
This black and white infrared photograph captures the haunting beauty of one of the abandoned houses in the ghost town of Kolmanskop, Namibia. The interior is frozen in time, a silent witness to a bygone era when this place was bustling with life and hope. Kolmanskop, also known as Kolmannskuppe, was once a thriving diamond mining town nestled in the heart of the Namib desert. In its heyday during the early 1900s, fortune seekers flocked here in search of precious gems. However, after World War I and with diminishing diamond reserves, this once prosperous town slowly faded into obscurity. The photographer skillfully uses black and white infrared photography to enhance the ethereal atmosphere that permeates through every corner of this forgotten house. The play between light and shadows creates an eerie yet mesmerizing effect that draws viewers into a world frozen in time. As we gaze upon this image, we can't help but wonder about the stories these walls could tell if they could speak. What dreams were shattered within these rooms? What laughter echoed through these now empty halls? This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of how nature reclaims what man has left behind. It invites us to reflect on our own impermanence and reminds us that even grand structures can succumb to time's relentless march. Mitchell Krog's masterful capture transports us to another era while simultaneously reminding us of our own mortality – making it not just a beautiful piece of art but
