Framed Print of Ferry Crossing
21st May 1955: Tourists watching the ferry which travels between the Scottish mainland and the holiday resort of Rothesay on the island of Bute. Rothesay used to be known as Glasgow-by-the-sea but improved transport links have encouraged visitors from further afield, which has boosted the resort's popularity and the local economy. The car ferry, which crosses the Kyles of Bute from Wemyss Bay, booked eight vehicles at the Spring Bank Holiday in 1953 andby 1955 the figure had risen to 212. The resort provides traditional entertainments such as the Winter Gardens, the Pavilion Ballrooms and Punch and Judy shows on the beach, as well as three cinemas.
