EDITORS COMMENTS
This hand-colored lithograph, published in 1880, showcases the remarkable diversity of Mollusca. The print features a stunning array of sixteen different species, each meticulously detailed and brought to life with vibrant colors. In the top left corner, we are introduced to the Greater argonaut, its delicate shell gracefully floating amidst the waves. Moving clockwise, we encounter the Calamary with its long tentacles extended and ready for action. Next is the Paper nautilus, an exquisite creature that constructs a beautiful papery shell as protection. As our eyes wander further down the print, we come across unique specimens such as the Sea Butterfly with its translucent wings fluttering through underwater currents. The Great grey slug and Grapevine snail showcase terrestrial mollusks thriving in their natural habitats. Continuing on this visual journey, we discover lesser-known species like Isognomostoma isognomostomos and Helicigona lapicida - both displaying intricate patterns on their shells. Zebrina detrita catches our attention with its striking stripes while Two Toothed Door Snail peeks out from its spiral home. Further down lies Lymnaea stagnalis gliding along water surfaces alongside Planorbarius corneus and Paludina vivipara nestled among aquatic plants. The Precious wentletrap stands out with its elegant spiraling form while Green ormer exhibits mesmerizing hues on its shell's surface. Finally, our gaze lands upon Scutellastra longic
