Gillray bases his satirical ticket on Sayers composition (see P3324). Gillray often appropriated Sayers work for different political ends, even, as here, to the extent of including Sayers monogram (bottom left). The most significant difference between the two versions is the supporters on either side of the shield. Here in Gillray's version, an angry Lord Chancellor Thurlow sits on a commode, while on the other side of the shield a terrified Indian pleads for justice. In the court scene below, Hastings kneels dramatically in front of Thurlow. To his right, his supporters decry a politically motivated trial, while prosecutors on the left demand redress for Hastings corruption.

Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
