Harry Bertram Abadie (1872-1901) was the son of Major-General H. R. Abadie, CB, Lieutenant-Governor of Jersey. Educated at Winchester, he entered the 11th Hussars in October 1892, being promoted to lieutenant in September 1894. Abadie served with the Chitral Relief Force under Sir Robert Low in 1895, and then with Sir William Lockhart's Tirah Expeditionary Force in 1897-1898, being mentioned in despatches for his work as a transport officer.
He was appointed ADC to Lieutenant-General Sir Archibald Hunter in March 1900, and was mentioned in despatches as being deserving of much praise' during the Siege of Ladysmith, when he performed the duties of staff officer for water supplies. Abadie's Distinguished Service Order was announced in the London Gazette' on 27 September 1901. Unfortunately he never knew of his award as he had died of enteric at Norval's Pont on 25 February that year.); National Army Museum, London, UK.
