A Curious Story of a Crocodile

EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating lithograph that takes us back to the late 19th century, when tales of adventure and exploration were all the rage. This intriguing print, created by William Ralston in 1898, depicts an astonishing encounter between a group of intrepid travelers and a slumbering crocodile. The scene unfolds deep within the dense jungle, where our protagonists stumble upon this massive reptile resting peacefully on the edge of a clearing. Unbeknownst to them, danger lurks as they approach with curiosity and excitement. Little do they know that their every move is being watched by this formidable creature. As one traveler decides to take aim at what he believes to be an easy target for his shooting skills, fate intervenes in an unexpected twist. Just as he prepares to pull the trigger, smoke billows from his gun barrel causing him to turn away momentarily. In that split second, the crocodile awakens from its slumber and lunges forward towards its unsuspecting prey. In a surprising turn of events, it's not our adventurer who falls victim to this deadly predator but rather another member of their party who had been stealthily pressing against a boulder nearby. The crocodile's jaws snap shut around him with astonishing force. This lithograph captures both the humor and danger inherent in such encounters with wild animals during expeditions into uncharted territories. It serves as a reminder that even amidst breathtaking landscapes and thrilling adventures lies an untamed world where caution must always prevail over curiosity.
