EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Flesh, said the bear" transports us into a world of enchantment and intrigue. Painted by Kittelsen, Theodor Severin in oil on canvas, this piece measures 81x56 cm and is part of a private collection. The image captures a moment frozen in time, where we witness the hunger and determination of a bear in the wilderness. With its piercing gaze fixed upon us, it seems to be conveying an unspoken message - "flesh". This simple yet powerful word evokes both primal instincts and survival. In this fairytale-like scene, we are surrounded by elements that add depth to the narrative. A pig stands nearby as if caught off guard by the bear's presence while a cunning fox lurks in the background. These additional characters hint at themes of hunting and animal instinct. Kittelsen's illustration skillfully combines elements from both the 19th century and 20th century art styles. The painting exudes an air of mystery with its dark tones contrasting against bursts of vivid colors. As we delve into this artwork from Fine Art Finder's collection through Bridgeman Images' lens, we are reminded that great art has no boundaries or limitations when it comes to storytelling. It invites us to explore our own interpretations while immersing ourselves in its beauty and complexity.
