The image transports us to a picturesque countryside setting, where an enthusiastic group gathers at "The Meet". In this vibrant oil on canvas masterpiece, we witness horseback riders elegantly mounted on their steeds, ready for the exhilarating chase that lies ahead. A pack of hounds eagerly awaits their command as they surround the hunters with anticipation and excitement. The scene is set against a backdrop of charming cottages and an inviting inn or pub, which adds to the idyllic charm of rural life. A windmill gracefully turns in the distance while a carriage stands nearby, hinting at other activities taking place in this lively gathering. Alken's attention to detail brings every element to life - from each individual dog's expression to the intricate patterns on horse blankets. The artist skillfully captures both movement and stillness within this dynamic composition.
