Jumbo the Elephant Takes in the Majestic Skyscrapers of New York City

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this chromolitho print by George Henry Thompson, we are transported back to early 20th century New York City. Jumbo, a magnificent elephant with an anthropomorphic twist, stands tall amidst the bustling streets of the city that never sleeps. With his trusty companions - a lion, a bear, and even a hippopotamus - Jumbo gazes up at the towering skyscrapers that define Manhattan's iconic skyline. This whimsical illustration comes from "The Animals Touring Club" written by Sheila E Braine and published in London and New York around 1910. It offers us a delightful glimpse into a world where animals roam freely alongside humans, exploring new territories and embracing adventure. As Jumbo takes in the sights of this vibrant metropolis, we can't help but marvel at the artist's attention to detail. The lithograph captures not only the grandeur of these architectural wonders but also showcases the colorful tapestry of life on its streets.
