EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a magnificent six-panel screen depicting Cranes, created during the Edo Period by the renowned artist Korin, Ogata. The screen, measuring an impressive 166x371 cm, is currently housed at the Freer Gallery of Art in the Smithsonian Institution in the USA. In this exquisite artwork, delicate ink strokes are combined with vibrant colors and accents of gold and silver on paper to bring to life a scene filled with grace and tranquility. A flock of elegant cranes takes center stage against a backdrop that exudes serenity. The panels depict these majestic birds walking gracefully across the screen, their slender legs stepping lightly as they stroll through an ethereal landscape. Each crane seems to possess its own unique personality as they move together harmoniously. Korin's masterful technique reflects his affiliation with Rinpa, one of Japan's most influential artistic schools.
