EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Belfast's history and modernity in one striking image. The focal point is the iconic Big Fish Sculpture, created by artist John Kindness, which stands proudly on Donegall Quay. What makes this sculpture truly unique is that its scales are represented by pieces of printed blue tiles, each showcasing intricate details from Belfast's rich past. As you gaze at the sculpture, your eyes are immediately drawn to the vibrant blue tiles that tell stories of a city steeped in heritage. From images depicting historical landmarks to snippets of Irish culture and traditions, these tiles serve as a visual tapestry connecting Belfast's present with its storied past. The juxtaposition between the sleek modern architecture surrounding the sculpture and the traditional motifs displayed on its scales creates an intriguing contrast. It symbolizes Belfast's ongoing urban development and regeneration while honoring its roots. The serene Lagan River flows gracefully behind the sculpture, reflecting both sky and structure in its shimmering waters. A lush green tree adds a touch of nature amidst this urban landscape, reminding visitors that even within bustling cities like Belfast, tranquility can be found. Hugh Rooney skillfully captures this moment in time through his lens, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in Belfasts' charm and allure. Whether you're a tourist or a local resident, this print serves as a reminder of how art can breathe life into public spaces while celebrating a city's history for all to enjoy.
