EDITORS COMMENTS
In this striking photograph captured by David Price during the 2020-21 Premier League match between Newcastle United and Arsenal, we witness a poignant moment of celebration between teammates Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabriel Martinelli. The scene unfolds at St. James Park in Newcastle upon Tyne, with the stadium devoid of fans due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The image captures Aubameyang in the act of scoring Arsenal's second goal, his jubilant expression reflecting the importance of the moment. Martinelli, who provided the assist, can be seen in the background, beaming with pride and excitement. The empty stands serve as a stark reminder of the unusual circumstances under which the game was played, with government social distancing laws prohibiting fans from attending. Despite the lack of a roaring crowd, the intensity and passion of the game were undiminished. Aubameyang's goal, a testament to his predatory instincts, marked a crucial turning point in the match, helping Arsenal secure a valuable victory. Martinelli's contribution, meanwhile, highlighted his growing importance to the team, with the young Brazilian continuing to impress in his debut season. This photograph encapsulates the resilience and adaptability of football in the face of adversity, with players and fans alike finding new ways to connect and revel in the beautiful game. The empty stadium may have robbed the moment of its usual atmosphere, but it cannot diminish the brilliance of Aubameyang's goal or the camaraderie between the teammates.
