EDITORS COMMENTS
This print transports us to the mesmerizing depths of the Red Sea, specifically the Gulf of Aqaba near Sharm El Sheik in Egypt. Taken in 1987 by renowned photographer Quilici Folco, this image showcases the vibrant and diverse marine life that thrives within these crystalline waters. In this particular scene, our attention is drawn to a stunning creature known as Pterois, commonly referred to as butterfly fish due to its graceful appearance. Its vivid colors and intricate patterns make it a true marvel of nature's artistry. However, beneath its enchanting exterior lies a hidden danger – this species is highly poisonous. As we gaze at this photograph, we are reminded of the delicate balance between beauty and peril that exists within our natural world. The contrast between the fish's alluring allure and its toxic nature serves as a poignant metaphor for life itself – sometimes what appears enticing can also be harmful if not approached with caution. The reefs surrounding Sharm El Sheik provide an ideal habitat for such fascinating creatures like Pterois. These underwater ecosystems teem with an array of marine species, creating an awe-inspiring spectacle for divers and snorkelers alike. Quilici Folco's expertly captured moment allows us to appreciate both the fragility and resilience present in our oceans. It serves as a gentle reminder of their importance in sustaining life on Earth while urging us to protect these invaluable habitats from harm. This timeless photograph invites us into an ethereal realm where beauty coexists with danger—a testament to Mother Nature's ability to surprise and captivate even after decades have passed since its capture by Quilici Folco through his lens at Alinari studios.
