Framed Print of Lucas Cranach the Elder - Adam
Lucas Cranach the Elder - Adam and Eve - 1526 - The painting depicts the moment in the Garden of Eden just before Adam and Eve consume the forbidden fruit, leading to the Fall of Man. Eve is shown accepting the apple from the serpent and offering one to Adam Symbolism: The various animals, including deer, a bear, and others, are all living in harmony, which symbolizes the peace that existed in Eden before original sin entered the world. Animals were often used to represent medieval temperaments (e.g. the cat for choleric, the ox for phlegmatic), which were in balance before the Fall. The fig leaves Adam and Eve use for modesty are a common symbol of decency and the shame they felt after realizing their nakedness. © steeve-x-art
