This print captures a historic moment in aviation as French pilot Jean-Francois Jacquelin lands with a replica of Wilbur Wright's Flyer 3. The event took place on Le Mans aerodrome, where an homage to the American aviation pioneer was being held. Unfortunately, not pictured is Amanda Wright Lane, Wilbur Wright's great grand-niece, who graced the occasion with her presence. The dedication and hard work of the volunteers from Le Mans Sarthe Aero Retro association are evident in this photograph. Over a span of four years and more than 10,000 hours of labor, they meticulously built this remarkable replica plane that once carried Wilbur Wright himself. It was on August 8th, 1908 when he used this very aircraft to set a new flight distance record during his stay in western France.
