Twoband anemonefish
Twoband anemonefish (Amphiprion bicinctus) in sea anemone on a coral reef. Anemonefish, also called clownfish, live in association with anemones. Both partners benefit in a mutualistic association. Slime on the fishs skin prevents the anemones stinging cells from damaging it. The fish sleeps, evades danger, eats, and lays its eggs between the poisonous tentacles. The anemonefish cleans the anemone and also ensures a supply of food detritus for the anemone to feed on. This fish can reach a length of 14 centimetres. It is found in the western Indian Ocean and the Red Sea. Photographed in the Red Sea

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the enchanting world of the Twoband anemonefish, also known as Amphiprion bicinctus, in its natural habitat. The image showcases a vibrant coral reef backdrop where this fascinating creature resides alongside its symbiotic partner, the sea anemone. The mutualistic association between these two species is truly remarkable. The fish benefits from a protective layer of slime on its skin that shields it from the stinging cells of the anemone. It finds solace and safety amidst the poisonous tentacles, using them as a haven to sleep, evade danger, feed, and even lay eggs. In return for this sanctuary, the anemonefish diligently cleans its host and ensures a constant supply of food detritus for the anemone to feast upon. This delicate balance exemplifies nature's intricate web of interdependence. Measuring up to 14 centimeters in length, this particular species can be found in the western Indian Ocean and Red Sea regions. Its striking appearance adds vibrancy to any underwater scene it inhabits. Through this stunning photograph taken in Egypt's Red Sea waters by Science Photo Library, we are granted a glimpse into one small corner of our vast oceans teeming with life. It serves as a reminder of both nature's beauty and complexity while highlighting the wonders that lie beneath our planet's shimmering blue surface.
