The male bird, perched gracefully on a branch, is a sight to behold with its predominantly black feathers adorned by striking orange and white epaulets on its shoulders. One cannot miss the extraordinary length of its tail, measuring up to an impressive 50 cm, which is only present during the breeding season. Oliver back in 1907 and now finds itself as part of the prestigious natural history collection at Buffelsdoorn Estate in Klerksdorp, South Africa. The image captured by MIKE SEARLE beautifully highlights the vibrant colors and unique features of this African avian species. Its black-and-white body contrasts harmoniously with splashes of buff, red, and orange throughout its plumage. This photograph not only serves as a testament to nature's incredible diversity but also offers viewers a glimpse into the meticulous artistry displayed by these weaverbirds when constructing their nests.
