Capturing the Thrills and Tragedies of the 1960 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps
EDITORS COMMENTS
. This iconic print takes us back to the heart-pounding action of the 1960 Belgian Grand Prix held in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. The image showcases Jack Brabham, skillfully maneuvering his Cooper T53-Climax into first position, leading a pack of fierce competitors on that fateful day - June 19th. As Brabham dominates the race with his exceptional driving skills, Olivier Gendebien trails behind in third position with his Cooper T51-Climax. Meanwhile, Phil Hill in his Ferrari Dino 246 fights hard for fourth place against Jo Bonnier's BRM P48 before both were forced to retire due to unforeseen circumstances. However, amidst this thrilling spectacle lies tragedy as well. Chris Bristow and Alan Stacey tragically lost their lives in separate accidents during this eventful race. Their untimely demise serves as a somber reminder of the risks these brave drivers took every time they stepped onto the track. In contrast to these intense moments, Lucien Bianchi and Jim Clark can be seen making delayed starts from the grid in the background. With determination etched on their faces, they strive to catch up with their rivals while battling unfavorable odds. This photograph not only captures a moment frozen in time but also pays homage to those who pushed boundaries and faced unimaginable challenges on one of motorsport's most legendary circuits – Spa-Francorchamps.
