An appeal for writing materials for youngsters in Ethiopia

An appeal for writing materials for youngsters in Ethiopia and the Sudan has gone so well that a temporary halt has been called to collecting. Mrs Lynne Barrow, whose idea sparked the massive response, said hundreds of pens, pencil, crayons and gifts of writing paper had been received. Pictured with just a small part of the donations, at the library are (from left) Christopher Hartley (4), Louise Harley (6), Jonathan Barrow (8), James Barrow (7) and Simon Hartley (8). 10th March 1986

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming photo print, we witness the incredible success of an appeal for writing materials for young children in Ethiopia and the Sudan. The response to this noble cause has been so overwhelming that a temporary halt had to be called on collecting donations. Mrs Lynne Barrow, whose brilliant idea ignited this massive wave of generosity, expressed her gratitude as hundreds of pens, pencils, crayons, and gifts of writing paper flooded in. Captured at the library are five adorable youngsters who have become symbols of hope through their involvement in this charitable endeavor. From left to right, we see Christopher Hartley (4), Louise Harley (6), Jonathan Barrow (8), James Barrow (7), and Simon Hartley (8). These bright-eyed children stand proudly amidst just a small fraction of the remarkable contributions received. This poignant image transports us back to March 10th, 1986 when compassion knew no boundaries. It serves as a reminder that even from afar, communities can unite to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. With Africa as its backdrop and charity pulsating through its veins, this photograph encapsulates the spirit of giving during one unforgettable era - the 1980s. Let us cherish these innocent faces forever etched within our collective memory; they embody not only childhood innocence but also resilience and empathy towards others. May their selfless act inspire generations to come while reminding us all that small gestures can create ripples of change across continents.
