The popularity of such events was at its peak during this era, providing an opportunity for the elite to showcase their creativity and wit. From left to right, we see Miss Dalzell dressed in prehistoric garb, evoking the ancient past. Mrs George Edwardes dons a dress from a century ago, adding an air of nostalgia. Miss Alice Crawford channels Othello's tragic Desdemona, while Somerset Maugham embodies a character from the play. The Hon. Mrs Cecil Bingham brings the opulence of Louis XIV to life, and Lady Violet Charteris captivates as Jane Seymour. Lord Vernon transforms into Henry VIII, while Baroness von Kuhlmann pays homage to the famous portrait artist Lely. Peggy from the Sunshine Girl and Viscount Dangan bring the same play to life with their respective costumes. Baron Hoesch and Lady Diana Manners add to the grandeur in Lely costumes, and Mrs Hwfa Williams completes the scene in a Georgian dress inspired by Sir Joshua Reynolds. This enchanting gathering was held in aid of the Middlesex Hospital, demonstrating the philanthropic spirit of the era. The Savoy Hotel's grand ballroom played host to an unforgettable night of historical splendor, where society's elite came together to celebrate, create memories, and raise funds for a worthy cause.
