EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the elegant Fokker F.XII PH-AIJ, also known as Ijsvogel (Dutch for "ice bird"), as it gracefully approaches Croydon Airport for a landing in the 1930s. Regarded as one of the most luxurious and advanced airliners of its time, this Fokker F.XII, with the manufacturing serial number 5302, was first registered to KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) on April 26, 1932. The aircraft, featuring a sleek design and accommodating up to 14 passengers, was an impressive addition to the growing aviation industry. However, the ownership of this aircraft did not remain with KLM for long. By October 12, 1936, it had been sold to a French buyer. The Fokker F.XII's journey through the skies during this era represented the spirit of innovation and progress in the field of aviation transportation. This photograph, taken circa 1934, showcases the aircraft's impressive capabilities and the thrill of air travel during an era when flying was still a novelty for many. The Fokker F.XII PH-AIJ, with its rich history and timeless design, continues to captivate the imagination of aviation enthusiasts and historians alike.
