Charles Stewart Rolls (1877-1910) British engineer and aviator in 1906. Henry Royce built his first motor car in 1904 and in May of that year met Charles Rolls, whose company sold quality cars in London. Agreement was reached that Royce Limited would manufacture a range of cars to be exclusively sold by CS Rolls & Co they were to bear the name Rolls-Royce. Pictured seated in his 110 H.P. Mors car with which he beat the worlds record at Welbeck on 12 October 1903, travelling at a rate of 83 3/4 miles per hour. Date: 1903

In this photograph, The Hon. Charles Stewart Rolls (1877-1910) is seen seated in the driver's seat of his powerful 110 H.P. Mors car. The year is 1903, and Rolls, a British engineer and aviator, is beaming with pride as he had recently set a new world record for land speed at Welbeck, reaching an impressive 83 3/4 miles per hour. At the time, Rolls was the proprietor of CS Rolls & Co., a London-based company renowned for selling high-quality cars. In May 1904, Rolls crossed paths with Henry Royce, an accomplished engineer, who had built his first motor car just a year prior. An agreement was soon reached between the two visionaries, with Royce Limited agreeing to manufacture a range of cars exclusively for CS Rolls & Co. These cars would bear the esteemed name Rolls-Royce. Despite his success with Rolls-Royce, Rolls could not resist the allure of speed and the thrill of setting records.
