This illustration offers a glimpse into the heart of London's anti-aircraft defenses during the Second World War, as depicted in a sketch made by Captain Bryan de Grineau in 1944 for the Illustrated London News (ILN). The Gun Control Room, shown here, served as the headquarters for coordinating the city's air defense efforts against enemy aircraft. On the left side of the room, information regarding the movement of incoming airplanes was received and plotted on maps. The senior staff, gathered on the right side, would use this information to coordinate the city's anti-aircraft defenses.
