Great Auk Eggs: A Rare and Endearing Illustration of an Extinct Species This illustration showcases a pair of Great Auk eggs, a once-thriving seabird species that tragically went extinct in the mid-19th century. The Great Auk, scientifically known as Pinguinus impennis, was a member of the auk family (Alcidae) and the only known flightless bird in the charadriiform order (wading birds and allies).
