The Great Stone Curlew is a large wading bird belonging to the Charadriiformes order, specifically the family Scolopacidae, and is distinguished by its long, downward-curved beak and cryptic, earthy plumage. The Esacus recurvirostris is native to Australia, New Guinea, and the Pacific Islands, and is well-adapted to its terrestrial habitat, often blending seamlessly into the ground as it waits patiently for prey.
