EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph from 1972, two young Cub Scouts, Ian Kinkaid and Nigel Heap, from Southgate, North London, proudly participate in Operation Shoeshine, a seven-day campaign during Scout Job Week. This unique initiative aimed to teach valuable life skills to Scouts while providing a service to the community. The glamorous first customer for their shoe-shining services was none other than the renowned actress Caroline Munro. Known for her striking beauty and impressive filmography, Miss Munro graciously accepted the offer from the Cub Scouts, adding an extra dose of excitement to their experience. Ian and Nigel, clad in their Cub Scout uniforms, diligently attend to Miss Munro's boots with brushes in hand. The actress, dressed in a stylish long dress and high heels, smiles warmly at the boys, her long hair cascading down her shoulders. The 1970s setting is further emphasized by the slim cloth footwear that Miss Munro wears, a popular fashion trend during that era. Operation Shoeshine was an excellent opportunity for the Cub Scouts to learn essential skills, such as customer service and attention to detail, while also contributing positively to their community. This photograph encapsulates the spirit of the Scouting movement during the 1970s - one that fostered personal growth, camaraderie, and a strong sense of service.
