EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases an exquisite piece of art, the Ornate Goblet from 1642. Created through the technique of etching, this state sheet measures 7 11/16 inches by 5 5/16 inches (195 x 135 cm). The mastermind behind this masterpiece is Wenceslaus Hollar, a Bohemian artist born in Prague in 1607 and later settled in London. Inspired by Hans Holbein the Younger, a renowned German artist from Augsburg, Hollar beautifully captures an ornate goblet with intricate details. Adorned with heads of bearded men and supported by animal legs as its base, it stands tall on a stem. What makes this goblet truly unique is its embracing naked couple finial lid and four naked women surrounding it within an oval frame. The craftsmanship displayed in this artwork is truly remarkable. Each element has been meticulously crafted to perfection, showcasing the skill and talent of both Hollar and Holbein. This print allows us to appreciate every minute detail up close. As we gaze upon this stunning image captured by Artokoloro for the Liszt Collection, we are transported back to a time when art was celebrated for its beauty and intricacy. It serves as a reminder that even centuries later, these timeless pieces continue to captivate our imagination and leave us in awe of their artistic brilliance.
