EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print captures the essence of Charles Russell QC MP, a remarkable British lawyer and politician who left an indelible mark on the legal and political landscape of his time. Born in Newry, County Down in 1832, Russell's illustrious career saw him rise to become one of the most influential figures in British law. Dressed impeccably in silks and donning a wig that symbolizes his profession, Russell exudes confidence and authority. His piercing gaze reflects his deep commitment to justice as he navigated through courtrooms with finesse. Not only was he a formidable barrister known for his persuasive skills, but he also ventured into politics. Representing both Dundalk (1880-1885) and Hackney South (1885-1894) as a Liberal Member of Parliament, Russell brought his legal expertise to bear on legislative matters. His contributions were recognized when he was appointed Attorney General not once but twice; first in 1886 and again from 1892-1894. Later on, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales became another prestigious title held by this exceptional statesman from 1894 until his passing in 1900.
