Sir William Withey Gull, 1878. Gull became physician and lecturer to Guys Hospital in 1856. He resigned due to increased practice in 1867, but remained a consulting physician to the hospital. Regarded as an outstanding clinical physician, Gull was made a baronet in 1872 for his treatment of the Prince of Wales severe illness with typhoid fever the previous year.
