Oskar Kokoschka's "Lovers with Cat" (1925) captures the intensity of his passionate relationship with Alma Mahler, depicted with her pet feline companion. Austrian composer Anton von Webern, a friend of Kokoschka, sketched the painter in 1918. Kokoschka served as a military volunteer during World War I, and later created his Alma doll, an expression of his deep infatuation. The doll was later transformed into Venus in another artwork. Alma Mahler, an Austrian socialite and composer, was married to Gustav Mahler before her relationship with Kokoschka. Kokoschka's "Knight" (1915) showcases his mastery of oil painting and his exploration of the knight errant theme.
