This print takes us back in time to the early days of football, specifically to the 1914/15 season. The image captures the Leicester Fosse team group before their match against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium. Standing tall at the back are some of Leicester Fosse's key players, including Billy Troughear, Horace Burton, James Harrold, Herbert Bown, and Samuel Currie. A notable figure dressed in civilian clothing stands amongst them - Mr Humphries - perhaps a supporter or an important member of the club. In front of them is their captain and trainer A. Thompson, who exudes confidence as he leads his team onto the pitch. The faces of Lowsford, William Billy Mills, Samuel Sims, Edwin King, Norman Whitfield and William Billy Thomson reflect both determination and anticipation for what lies ahead. The opposing team Wolves may not be mentioned commercially here but they were undoubtedly formidable opponents on that day. Unfortunately for Leicester Fosse fans though, this particular match ended in disappointment with a crushing 7-0 defeat. Thanks to Colorsport Images' impeccable preservation skills we are able to relive these historic moments through this remarkable photograph print from over a century ago. It serves as a reminder of how far football has come since those early years while also honoring the dedication and passion displayed by these pioneering players who laid down the foundations for future generations.
