Meet the Greenhouse Slug - The Iberian Peninsula's Sneaky Invader!

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print captures a fascinating moment in the life of SPH-3405, also known as the Greenhouse Slug. Native to the stunning Iberian Peninsula, this mischievous mollusk was once only spotted within glasshouses like Kew before 1980. But hold on tight, because something extraordinary happened - it started spreading its slimy charm into gardens! Could global warming be responsible for this unexpected expansion? Interestingly, according to the National Atlas map published in 1999, these slugs were nowhere to be found west of Bristol. However, our little friend decided to break all boundaries and make Cornwall its new home sweet home. Talk about an adventurous spirit! Also referred to as Lehmannia valentiana by scientific enthusiasts (not just us wildlife lovers), this UK alien has certainly made quite a name for itself. Just imagine stumbling upon one of these unique creatures while lifting up stones in your garden during that sunny July of 2005. So here it is – a single snapshot capturing an introduced species thriving against all odds. Let Steve Hopkin's incredible photography remind us that even slugs can surprise us with their resilience and adaptability!
