Aerial picture taken on March 2005, of the Cumbre volcanos crater, in the Galapagos Islands, 1.000 km off the coast of Ecuador. Cumbre spewed rivers of lava and sent columns of steam 7 km into the air 14 May 2005. The 1.483 meters high volcano is on the unpopulated island of Fernandina, one of the Galapagos Islands, which are a major tourist attraction. Lava rushing into the sea generated plumes of steam, according to Hugo Yepes, director of the Ecuador Geophysical Institute. EDITORS COMMENTS
This aerial print captures the sheer power and beauty of nature's fury. Taken in March 2005, it showcases the Cumbre volcano's crater on Fernandina Island in the Galapagos Islands, located 1,000 km off the coast of Ecuador. Standing tall at an impressive height of 1,483 meters, this unpopulated island is a renowned tourist destination. The image freezes a momentous event that occurred on May 14th, just two months after the photograph was taken. The Cumbre volcano unleashed its might by spewing rivers of molten lava and sending colossal columns of steam soaring up to seven kilometers into the sky. The resulting plumes created a mesmerizing spectacle as they mingled with ocean waters. Hugo Yepes, director of the Ecuador Geophysical Institute, reported that this volcanic eruption generated intense heat and energy as lava cascaded into the sea. The fusion between fire and water birthed magnificent clouds of steam that danced gracefully above. Photographer Patricio Ramon has masterfully captured this awe-inspiring scene from above. His lens reveals intricate details within the volcanic crater while showcasing its vastness against Fernandina Island's backdrop. This remarkable photo serves as a testament to both Earth's destructive forces and its breathtaking natural wonders. It invites viewers to contemplate our planet's raw power while marveling at its stunning landscapes—a true reminder that we are mere spectators in Mother Nature's grand theater.
