EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases four exquisite pendants from the 17th to 19th centuries, crafted with the utmost artistry and adorned with precious materials. The top left pendant, dating back to the 17th century, depicts Saint George and the Dragon. Its circular shape is framed by black and white champleve enamel, accentuated by eight table-cut rubies. Suspended from a gold and pearl chain is a striking black and white striped enamel flowerhead embellished with five ruby crosses. Moving to the top right pendant, we find a stunning piece from the 19th century. Its openwork backplate features twenty-six table-cut rubies set against an enchanting red and white champleve enamel cartouche decorated with seed pearls and an emerald centerpiece. Translucent blue enameled C-scrolls adorn its sides while drapery swags in gold and enamel add elegance at its center. The bottom left pendant dates back to around 1600. It boasts a multicolored champleve enamel openwork backplate mounted with a high collet-set red gemstone surrounded by radiant gold flower heads, baroque pearls, garnets, all set against later gold flowerheads. Lastly, we have a Hungarian pendant circa 1700 featuring intricate filigree work in gold along with polychrome foliage enameling. Four emeralds are delicately placed on its pierced backplate while an elevated filigree cartouche adorned with enamel flowerheads steals attention at its center. These pendants are not only remarkable examples of European craftsmanship but also serve as timeless reminders of our fascination for beauty throughout history.
