EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a pair of exquisite sugar tongs from the Georgian era. Crafted by Joseph Drake, a skilled silversmith who flourished between 1730 and 1739, these tongs are a testament to his exceptional craftsmanship. Measuring at 11.7x4.8 cm, they are currently housed in The Geffrye Museum of the Home in London. The design of these silver sugar tongs is truly remarkable. Each arm features a complex shaft composed of two curled sections - one small and one longer - on either side of a central circular pivot adorned with concentric circle decoration. The shorter section culminates in a round handle fitted with a stopper to prevent the handles from touching, while the opposite end terminates in a bowl specifically designed for picking up sugar. Upon closer inspection, you can spot two marks on the inside of one of the bowls, adding an intriguing historical touch to this elegant serving implement. Captured against a clean white background in vertical format, this studio shot emphasizes every intricate detail and highlights the timeless beauty of these silver sugar tongs. With their delicate yet functional design, they serve as both practical utensils and stunning pieces of artistry from the 18th century.
