Crafted in brass by Firmin and Sons of London, this circular button features crossed kris daggers within a circlet, along with the unit title "A Malay State Guides" and half wreath inscriptions. The Malay State Guides were established in 1896 as an evolution of the Perak Armed Police's 1st Perak Sikhs paramilitary unit. Led by Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Sandilands Frowd Walker, this formidable force consisted of infantry and artillery companies under British and Sikh officers' command. Throughout World War One, personnel from the Guides served with distinction alongside the Aden Field Force and provided reinforcements for Singapore.
