5925881 Officier 52 Regiment dA InfanterieA, c.1815 (coloured engraving) by Unknown Artist, (19th century); National Army Museum, London; (add.info.: Officier 52 Regiment dA InfanterieA.
Colour etching by an unknown artist. From a collection of ten engravings of the British Army in Paris entitled A Costumes MillitairesA, published by Genty, Paris, 1815 circa.
The 52nd (Oxfordshire) Regiment of Foot (Light Infantry) served with distinction throughout the Peninsular War (1808-1814) and at Waterloo (1815). Light Infantry regiments could fight in line like conventional infantry but were also trained in skirmishing. They were therefore useful in helping to counter the swarms of sharpshooters used by the French to precede their attacks or cover retreats.); eNational Army Museum; out of copyright

EDITORS COMMENTS
This coloured engraving, titled "Officier 52 Regiment d Infanterie, c. 1815" showcases the uniformed officer of the renowned 52nd (Oxfordshire) Regiment of Foot (Light Infantry). Created by an unknown artist in the 19th century, this print is now housed at the National Army Museum in London. The image depicts a distinguished officer dressed in his vibrant red coat adorned with gold braids and buttons. His black shako hat proudly displays a plume of feathers, symbolizing his rank and authority. With a stern expression on his face, he exudes confidence and determination. The 52nd Regiment played a significant role during both the Peninsular War and Waterloo battles. Renowned for their exceptional skills in skirmishing tactics, they were instrumental in countering French sharpshooters who often preceded attacks or covered retreats. This artwork is part of a collection called "A Costumes Millitaires" published by Genty in Paris around 1815. The series comprises ten engravings depicting various aspects of the British Army's presence in Paris during that time. Through this beautifully detailed engraving, we are transported back to an era where bravery and strategic warfare prevailed. It serves as a testament to the courage and skill exhibited by soldiers like those from the esteemed 52nd Regiment during historical conflicts that shaped our world today.
