EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a momentous occasion in history - HRH the Prince of Wales at Yarmouth. The engraving, created by an English School artist in the 19th century, showcases the grandeur and significance of this royal visit. The image takes us back to June 15,1872, when His Royal Highness arrived at Yarmouth amidst great fanfare and celebration. The town was adorned with triumphal arches as locals eagerly awaited his arrival. A procession led by officers from the Norfolk Militia Artillery accompanied him through the streets. As he made his way towards Shadingfield Lodge, where he resided during his stay, crowds lined the streets to catch a glimpse of royalty passing by. The regal view continued as he opened the Town Hall and visited Grammar School. One particularly remarkable scene depicted in this print is a banquet held in honor of HRH's presence. In a beautifully decorated banqueting room filled with buffets laden with sumptuous delicacies, guests enjoyed an opulent feast fit for royalty. This print not only offers us a visual insight into this historic event but also serves as a reminder of the ceremonial importance attached to royal visits during that era. It allows us to appreciate both the grandeur surrounding such occasions and their impact on local communities.
