7337592 Seascape from the 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis', 1931-32 (oil on paper) by Everett, John (1876-1949); 27.2x35.5 cm; National Maritime Museum, London, UK; (add.info.: Creator: Herbert Barnard John Everett
A sketch of a seascape from the 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis'. It shows an expanse of blue sea with the ridges of the waves arranged in lines diagonally across the surface of the water. The effect is of a rhythmic pattern reinforced by the short brush strokes of darker colour forming the ridges of the waves. Everett has created the effect of calm both on the water and in the sky. At intervals the waves have broken and white foamy crests have formed. On the horizon the white sails of a ship are visible. He sailed in the Greek-owned steamer, 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis', from Cardiff, Wales, to Montevideo, Uruguay, and back between December 1931 and March 1932.); © National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the serene beauty of a seascape from the 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis', painted by John Everett in 1931-32. The expanse of blue sea is depicted with rhythmic waves arranged diagonally across the surface, creating a sense of movement and tranquility. The short brush strokes of darker color form the ridges of the waves, adding depth and texture to the scene.
Everett masterfully conveys a feeling of calm both on the water and in the sky, with white foamy crests breaking at intervals along with the horizon showcasing white sails of a ship. This painting was inspired by Everett's journey aboard the Greek-owned steamer 'Penaglis M. Hadoulis' from Cardiff to Montevideo and back, capturing his experience at sea during that time.

It serves as a reminder of nature's power and beauty, inviting us to immerse ourselves in its peaceful embrace.
