King Shapur defeated both Roman Emperors Philip the Arab (c. 204 - 249) and Valerian (c.195-c.264). In this scene Philip the Arab is seen kneeling before King Shapur while he clasps the hands of Valerian who hides his hand in his sleeve in an act of submission.
