EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable piece of history - the collar badge of an officer from the Malay State Guides, dating back to 1896-1919. Crafted in metal and adorned with gilt, this badge features crossed kris daggers within an open wreath. The Malay State Guides were established in 1896 as an offshoot of the 1st Perak Sikhs, which originated from the Perak Armed Police. Led by Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Sandilands Frowd Walker, this paramilitary unit comprised infantry and artillery companies under the command of both British and Sikh officers. During World War One, personnel from the Malay State Guides played vital roles serving with the Aden Field Force and providing reinforcements for Singapore. However, their journey came to an end when they were disbanded in 1919. Part of the prestigious Field Marshal Sir John Chapple Indian Army Collection at London's National Army Museum, this collar badge is a testament to bravery and dedication. It symbolizes not only the rich heritage of Malaysia but also highlights its significant contributions during times of conflict. As we admire this exquisite artifact captured through Fine Art Finder's lens by Bridgeman Images, let us remember those who served selflessly as officers and soldiers wielding kris daggers - powerful edged weapons that embody strength and courage.
