The town has a population of around 40,000 people and is known for its Baroque architecture and art galleries, founded in 1658 by Prince Giuseppe Branciforte and was initially called Villa San Cataldo. Today Bagheria is known for its churches, palaces, gardens and parks as well as its famous festivals such as "La Festa di Santa Rosalia" which takes place every July 15th-17th.
