Water or metal divining has always been looked upon with some scepticism - since

Water or metal divining has always been looked upon with some scepticism - since few people have been able to carry the task out using the age old method of a hazel twig. However, Mr E W Norman, of Farnborough in Kent has proved to a group of farmers ( and the photographer ) that anybody can divine water or metal. Mr Norman uses a pair of brass rods about two feet long with another six inches on the end of each bent at right angles to form handles. These handles are held lightly, the rods pointing straight ahead. On walking over water or metal the two rods converge. There is no fake or trick, it actually works. Copper rods may also be used if brass is not available - picture shows Mr E W Norman of 10 Cleave Avenue, Farnborough in kent, walking across a field to locate drains. - 1st December 1961

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness the age-old practice of water or metal divining being demonstrated by Mr E W Norman in Farnborough, Kent. Historically met with skepticism due to its mysterious nature, few individuals have been able to successfully carry out this skill using a hazel twig. However, Mr Norman has astounded a group of farmers and the photographer by proving that anyone can divine water or metal. Using a pair of brass rods measuring approximately two feet long with additional six-inch handles bent at right angles, Mr Norman showcases his remarkable ability. With the rods held lightly and pointing straight ahead, he walks across fields in search of drains or hidden resources. As he approaches water or metal underground, an incredible phenomenon occurs - the two rods converge without any fake or trickery involved. It is important to note that copper rods may also be used if brass is not readily available for this esoteric practice. The photograph beautifully captures Mr E W Norman as he confidently strides through the field, utilizing his divining tool to observe and perceive unseen conduits beneath the surface. This image serves as a testament to human ingenuity and our innate desire to understand and predict natural phenomena beyond what meets the eye. It reminds us that even in an era dominated by technology and scientific advancements, there are still ancient skills waiting to be rediscovered and appreciated for their unique abilities.
