EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a significant moment in the history of St Kea All Hallows Church in Cornwall, circa 1904. The image showcases the eight majestic bells that were to be installed in the new church consecrated in 1896. Standing proudly behind these magnificent bells are workers from the Killiow Estate, along with Mr J. C. Daubuz, the esteemed Squire of Killiow Estate and owner of Daubuz tin smelting works. Notably, a young boy named Chegwidden is also present in this photograph, representing his older brother Ernest who had ventured off to America. The inclusion of this symbolic gesture adds a touch of personal significance to an already remarkable scene. Each bell bears its own Latin inscription and dedication, commemorating various individuals who played important roles within the church community. The photographer responsible for capturing this timeless moment remains unknown but has successfully preserved a snapshot of history within this print. This evocative image not only documents the grandeur of St Kea All Hallows Church's bells but also provides insight into the lives and connections between those involved with both religion and industry during that era.
