EDITORS COMMENTS
Collins Music Hall in Islington: A Peek into the Past Step back in time with this photograph of Collins Music Hall in Islington, taken circa 1908. The music hall, originally opened on the 4th of November, 1863, under the proprietorship of Mr. Sam Collins, stands proudly in this image. However, the building you see here is not the same one as the original. After a fire in 1896, the theatre was rebuilt according to the plans of architect A.E.A. Woodrow, and the enlarged theatre was reopened on the 23rd of December, 1897. The edwardian-era facade exudes an air of elegance and grandeur, with its ornate signage, intricately designed letters, and brightly lit windows. Gentlemen, dressed in their finest attire, can be seen standing near the entrance, eagerly anticipating the evening's entertainment. The show sign, proudly displayed, promises a night filled with music, laughter, and enjoyment. The Collins Music Hall was a significant part of Islington's cultural landscape, and this photograph offers a glimpse into its rich history. The building may no longer exist, but the memories and stories it holds continue to live on, making it an essential piece of London's musical past.
