The artist behind this thought-provoking work is Theodor de Bry, a Netherlandish master who lived from 1528 to 1598 in Frankfurt. It was Johann Sadeler from Brussels who reproduced de Bry's original creation, while Christoph Schwarz from Munich added his touch to the piece. The allegorical set depicts a mesmerizing landscape where various figures engage in symbolic actions. In the foreground, a man plays the lute near a fountain adorned with Venus and Cupid sculptures. Another figure gestures towards the left side of the scene while holding a spear.
