EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of the Common Myna, also known as the Indian Myna or Acridotheres tristis. Native to southern Asia, this striking bird has found its way into various parts of the world, becoming an invasive species with a rapidly expanding distribution range. In fact, it is considered one of the World's 100 worst invasive species by the Species Survival Commission (IUCN), making it a serious threat to ecosystems where introduced. Photographed in Israel during December, this image captures the essence of this alien creature against a backdrop of nature's wonders. The Common Myna stands out with its glossy black feathers and vibrant yellow beak, creating a visually stunning contrast. Its single presence symbolizes both its individuality and its impact on local wildlife. With no human presence in sight, this photograph emphasizes that these birds thrive in their natural habitat. It serves as a reminder that our actions can have unintended consequences on delicate ecosystems when we introduce non-native species. Through scientific exploration and observation, ornithologists continue to study these fascinating creatures and their ecological effects. This square image provides us with an opportunity to appreciate nature's diversity while raising awareness about the challenges posed by invasive species like the Common Myna.
