Its coat is black or dark brown, and its face has long white sideburns. The siamang lives in small family groups consisting of one breeding pair and their offspring, and are arboreal animals, spending most of their time in trees where they feed on fruit, leaves, flowers and insects and are known for their loud vocalizations which can be heard from distances up to 2 km away. The siamang is listed as an endangered species due to habitat loss caused by deforestation and hunting for bushmeat or pet trade purposes.
