William Henry Fox Talbot Collection

William Henry Fox Talbot was an English scientist, inventor, and photographer. He is best known for his invention of the calotype process, a photographic process that used paper coated with silver iodide to produce a negative image. This allowed for multiple prints to be made from the same negative. Talbot's work laid the foundation for modern photography and he is credited with inventing the first practical photographic process. He also wrote extensively on photography and published two books on the subject in 1844 and 1852. In addition to his scientific achievements, Talbot was an accomplished artist who produced many drawings of landscapes and architectural scenes throughout Europe during his travels in the 1830s. His work has been exhibited in galleries around the world and continues to influence contemporary photographers today.
